Travel and a bit of shopping

About

Ilse Zietsman : I’m a freelance journalist – writing (in Afrikaans and English) about travel, food and people. And experiences.

My articles have featured in the following publications: Die Burger, Beeld, Volksblad, FairLady, House&Leisure, Rapport, De Kat, Diversions, Travel Ideas and Juice magazine on Mango Airlines and on http://www.holidaymag.co.uk

Travel is my passion – I’ve traveled to 45 countries and I’m always planning my next trip. I’m not happy unless I have a flight ticket in my safe.

My favourite destination thus far has been Morocco. I am also besotted with Tallinn, Estonia. I have a special affinity for Eastern Europe including the Baltics.

My greatest travel experience has been riding the Trans-Siberian train from Moscow to Beijing, with stayovers in Irkutsk, at Lake Baikal and in Ulan Bator, Mongolia.

Some of my favourite cities are Amsterdam, Prague, Barcelona, Rome, Lisbon and Buenos Aires.

I also do translation, proofreading and editing.

I have a curious mind, I love learning new things and doing something different. I read incessantly. I always feel like going on a road trip and I do so fairly often.

I live in the winelands of South Africa with Pieter and 2 cats, Saffron the gentle ginger, and Pashak, the gangster cat.

I confess I listen to Boney M over Christmas. For the past 10 years I’ve done a scary thing once a year. Sometimes with disastrous results like a broken ankle amongst other things.
